Lawrence Hatch today
My very first interview is with a player that has one of the most interesting stories of any Florida Gator athlete I know of.
Lawrence Hatch started his career in Long Beach California before signing with The Gators. I spoke with him recently and asked him to tell me more about how he ended up in Gainesville .
LOS: Lawrence you had an interesting path to Gainesville. Tell me…how did you become a Gator?
Hatch: Well, I started my college career at Orange Coast Community College in California…
HATCH: Well I started in high school my senior year in 1988-1989. I had never played football up to that point. I really didn't know what I wanted to do. So I had a pretty good senior year. I made all league, I had some colleges out there that were saying I was a little small. I think I was about 170 lbs and about 5'9". They said I was a good player who could run. I had alot of raw talent but they didn't know if I was a one year wonder or a legitimate player. I really didn't have anyone out there that was willing to give me a full scholarship based on the fact that I had only basically played football for one season.
